It requires Codebreaker, in order to "patch" the game on the fly, using codes mentioned in previous message. Thanks to kind help from u/Monkey_Blue, I could make Skies of Arcadia original PAL version work with a VGA->HDMI cable ! This is why many people into old gaming systems like to have a CRT around. Your best bet would be to either buy a composite video cable for your Dreamcast (which wouldn't be the best video quality), and/or use another TV or monitor. I gather you're playing on a modern/flat screen TV, which probably doesn't offer that option, though. I had been looking into patching/burning my own copy of the game to get it to work, but in the end I just decided to play the game via s-video instead of VGA/RGB, and my problem was solved. I had a similar problem playing the NSTC version, because while that game does support VGA, it only supports it in 31khz, 640x480 progressive scan mode, while my display only supports 15khz, 640x480 interlaced. There is absolutely no way to get an unmodified PAL copy of Skies to output VGA. The only viable process would be to burn your own copy of the game do a CD after implementing one of those patches to the game data itself while it's on your computer. Skies of Arcadia is a fickle game, indeed. It seems to imply some knowledge on how to use such codes, and maybe require dedicated tools. Now, that sounds great, but I have no idea what to do about these codes. Targeting a more specific solution, a user of this forum, Monkey_Blue, provided some detailed codes which seem to address exactly the problem at hand, claiming that the code will make a PAL version of the game VGA compatible. I've found a kind of "archive" claiming to be "Action Replay CDX Dreamcast", but I have no experience on what to do about it (burn it on a cd ?) nor know if it will work. On the optimistic side, some people say that it just needs a "bootloader", like cdx, which will be able to "force" the vga mode. On the pessimistic side, some just state "it's impossible", or invite OP to "just" dismantle its Dreamcast, and removing the optical drive to equip instead some newer flash-based storage full of ripped games. The problem is, I also see a huge arrays of different answers, which makes it difficult to understand which ones are right. I've been looking through Internet, and there are plenty of people having the same issue. The HDMI cable acts as a "vga" cable from a Dreamcast perspective, and this mode is not supported for this game. It mostly works.Įxcept for one game, which is basically my best game on Dreamcast, Skyes of Arcadia. Our TV set doesn't support SCART connectors, so I bought an HDMI cable for my old dreamcast. I now live in a NTSC region, and recently decided to resurrect the Dreamcast, locked in storage. I've got a PAL dreamcast, with an assortment of original GDrom PAL games from Europe, and also a SCART cable.
